Palm Tree$ released Treemix 1 over the past weekend. There is a greater range of flows explored, a greater range of tones discovered, and a sharper focus throughout Treemix 1. When asked to describing Palm Tree$ music “Sometimes down-tempo because along with rapping. I like to create smooth, chill, laid back vibes.”
Palm Tree$ also mention that he has segmented his audience by being in the DMV. Say, “That music I’m not interested in releasing yet because the attention span of the DMV is so short & they only wanna hear “trap music.” On the flip side of that I also enjoy making party music. The music you can turn on in a function and people can jump around and have fun.”
The Exclusive Q&A w/ Palm Tree$
REBAL HUE Magazine has an Exclusive interview Palm Tree$. We had questions for Palm Tree$ such as influences in starting music, inspiration behind Treemix 1, dream collaboration and more. Check-out the interview below.
What made you start pursuing a career in rap?
“I used to be interested in poetry when I was a kid. I [would] write a poem every other day after my homework just because and because of that, I wrote my first song ever when I was in the 5th grade. Since then, I have been writing lyrics to beats & started to look into making a career out of music. But to sit here and say that I always wanted to be a musician would be a lie. My first dream goal was to be an actor.”
Growing up (where?), can you describe today’s underground music scene?
“Now, I was originally born in California but I’ve been raised in the DMV area since a kid. I’m going to be honest if we are talking about today’s underground music scene. I don’t dig it. Like there’s a couple of good artists here don’t get me wrong but I’m speaking for the majority. There’s too many kids trying to be cool and be a “trapper” as they call it. [They] show guns in videos & pictures, almost everybody has the same flow and says almost the same exact thing in every song just in a different way.”
Musically, what are your biggest influences and who are your favorite musicians?
Now, I could go all day about my influences & people I aspire that are in the game today (as he laugh) but I’m not gonna have you guys read all of that. But a couple of my favorites right now consist of: Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, Rae Sremmurd, Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, Logic, Outkast, Drake, and more!
What was the inspiration behind your rap name?
“Okay so the meaning behind the name Palm Tree$ is just good vibes. What do you think about when you hear about or see Palm Trees? Good vibes and nothing less. PALM is actually an acronym. People, Always, Love, Me & the Tree$ just stand out because I’m a stoner (as he laugh) I smoke a little here & there. The dollar sign at the end replacing the regular S, just describes me well because I am in love with money.”
What was the inspiration behind Treemix?
“Now Treemix. It took me almost a year to come up with this idea. You have people that put their ” Official remix ” on songs. [This] is Palm Tree$, so we cook up our own little twist to well-known beats consisted of nice flow & bars that MAKES SENSE. We call it the Treemix & this isn’t just a one time thing, that’s something I will be using for my entire career if able.”
Who would like to Collaborate with in feature and why?
“I have a whole list of future dream collaborations, now I don’t know if we are talking about local artists or industry artists but let me just name a few. For the industry artists, off tops I would wanna collaboration with: Rae Sremmurd, Wiz Khalifa, Logic & A$AP Rocky or A$AP MOB in general. Everybody else comes after that.. Now if we were keeping it local, I would be interested in collaborating with artists such as Lightshow, Innanet James & Theres about 2 more but I can’t think of them right now.”
In closing, Palm Tree$ may not be hitting the road this Fall but he will be making his presents known around social platforms. He mention that he will be ready when the opportunity is presented.
